When we started planning a session for Mia, a current senior at Shawnee High School, we knew exactly where we'd go - her family's shore home in New Jersey. We'd done big sister Maddie's session there too. But we weren't wanting to replicate the whole look of the session. Each girl is individual so I made sure this session was unique to Mia and her vibe.
How do we do that and how do I approach every session? It all starts here.
THE PRESHOOT CONSULTATION
You've chosen me to be your photographer (yay!) but that doesn't mean it's just me doing my thing. I look at sessions as a collaboration and that's why images are always unique to the senior, their vibe, the location and more.
WE FOCUS ON WHAT YOU LOVE AND WHERE YOU'RE HAPPIEST
In Mia's case, LBI is her happy place. But that didn't mean beach photos for her. It was more about where she loves to hang out - by the water, by her pool, hanging out with her favorite puppy, getting a hug from her mom, laughing at her dad plays photo assistant (Thanks John!) These are things we captured that will make these picture not just special but priceless as time goes by.
THEN WE DECIDE WHAT YOU'LL WEAR
What outfits make sense at the location you'll be? What's your vibe? And how can we elevate it while still staying true to you? I know what photographs well and have lots of tips for picking things:
1. Is this comfortable? Can you crouch down in it and curl your legs up in it too?
2. Do you have a flowy dress that you can swing around?
3. Does it have pockets to put your hands in?
4. Are all the outfits the same color? Are they all short dresses or all jeans? We want to mix this up a bit!
5. Are the clothes wearing you or are you wearing the clothes? Big stripes or busy patterns can distract.
AND LOTS OF OTHER DETAILS
Senior year is busy and can be stressful. But a senior session with me will not be. Because we will plan everything out beforehand to get all your thoughts, answer all your questions and have you relaxed and ready on the day of the session.
I've got this down, and parents - I've got you!
Or do you know of someone else who does? It's not too late for a fall/winter or even spring session. And for Class of 2028 - it's never too early to plan and get the date you want.
So please share this post with anyone you think might be interested. We work with seniors from all over South Jersey and Philadelphia, and especially from Cherokee High School, Moorestown Friends School and Moorestown High School, Haddonfield Memorial High School and Eastern Regional High School.
